The Indiana University Department of Labor Studies (DLS) is seeking an adjunct instructor for online undergraduate level Labor Studies courses. The candidate should have a background in economics. This is a remote position. We teach full and compressed semester courses.
The DLS is a part of the Indiana University School of Social Work (IUSSW). Our adjunct faculty are an integral part of our team as well as student mentors. We work with adjunct faculty to deliver a curriculum focused on social justice. Adjunct instructors may teach up to 9 credit hours per spring and fall semesters and 6 hours during summer semesters. Our learning management platform is Canvas. All our courses are asynchronous and most communication with students is electronic. The adjunct instructor is often the first point of contact a student has with the DLS and is expected to follow the mission, vision, and policies of the DLS and IUSSW.
The following educational qualifications are required:
- All degrees must be conferred and from a regionally accredited institution to be considered.
- A Masters’ degree with at least 18 credit hours in economics.
The following qualifications are preferred:
- Experience working in an online environment.
- Experience working with transfer, traditional and non-traditional students.
- Teach courses assigned from a pre-designed curriculum and use professional expertise when interacting with colleagues and students.
- Be available to students via email, phone, text, and office hours.
Essential duties and responsibilities:
- Provide quality education and maintain high standards of academic excellence in teaching assigned courses in discipline.
- Ability to use technology in the teaching and learning environment.
- Communicate effectively with colleagues and administration.
- Manage potential stressful situations in a professional and ethical manner.
- Adhere to university policies and procedures.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
